Modern British & Irish Art

Following the exceptional results for our Modern British & Irish Art Evening and Day Sales in March 2022, which totalled over £30.6 million, we are currently inviting consignments to our upcoming auctions in October.

Christie’s Modern British & Irish Art department offers paintings, sculpture and works on paper by some of the leading artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, such as Bridget Riley, L.S. Lowry, Dame Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore and Ben Nicholson. We hold Evening and Day Sales in the spring and autumn seasons, as well as important single-owner collection sales and selling exhibitions throughout the year.

Christie’s is the clear market leader in this category, with decisive market share and consistent dominance over the last 17 years. Christie’s has the most knowledgeable Modern British Art team in the market worldwide, holding over 140 years of combined experience and unrivalled specialist expertise, reflected in unparalleled sale results. Recent seasons have established new world record prices for some of the most prominent artists in the field including Bridget Riley, Sir John Lavery, Peter Lanyon and David Bomberg.

As part of Christie’s 20/21 group, the Modern British & Irish Art department is closely integrated with our global 20th and 21st Century Art international teams, helping to broaden the appeal of the category to a wider audience of buyers. By aligning our auction seasons with the major London sales in these categories, we can capitalise on our collaborative selling power, allowing us to leverage our extensive network of buyers and sellers for the benefit of our clients.

Our team of specialists is always available for free and confidential valuations of individual works or collections. Please do not hesitate to get in touch to discuss buying or selling at auction, or through private sale.
