Half title, title printed in red and black, engraved diagrams (lacking frontispiece portrait, light offsetting title, a few leaves, including title, lightly waterstained, some mainly marginal spotting, occassional soiling). Late 19th-century half calf (scuffed). Provenance: British Astronomical Association (2 stamps on title).
The third edition, the last published in the author's lifetime, and THE BASIS FOR ALL SUBSEQUENT EDITIONS. This edition of 750 copies included a new preface by Newton 'and a large number of alterations, the most important being the scholium on fluxions, in which Leibnitz had been mentioned by name.'
