Harriet Drummond
International Head of Department
Harriet Drummond has been a member of the British Drawings team since 1986, Head of Department since 1997 and International Head since 2009. Many new auction records have been set under her leadership, including world record prices for Edward Burne-Jones’s Love Among the Ruins, J.M.W. Turner’s The Blue Rigi, John Constable’s Helmingham Dell, Suffolk, Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s Pandora, Samuel Palmer’s Oak tree and beech, Lullingstone Park, John Ruskin’s Bellinzona, Switzerland, and John Martin’s The Destruction of the Pharoah’s Host. In July 2018, Harriet made a new auction record for Fuseli with The Faerie Queene appears to Prince Arthur, from Edmund Spenser’s ‘The Faerie Queene,’ and a new record for a work on paper, the successful result of J.W Waterhouse, Flora.
She has also been involved in many highly successful collection sales including The Bute Collection of Watercolors by Paul Sandby, British Watercolors from the Golden Age from the Collection of Monsieur and Madame Gérald Bauer, The Goyder Collection, Christopher Wood: A Very Victorian Eye, The Collection of Nicolette Wernick, Andrew Wyld: Connoisseur Dealer, and The Collection of the Late Mrs T.S Eliot.
In 2016, Harriet was a key specialist in the highly successful sale and exhibition, Defining British Art, which was held to celebrate Christie's 250th anniversary and realized nearly £100 million. Harriet has also been involved in a number of highly successful sales in New York including Turner Watercolors from the Chicago Wood Prince Family to Edward Lears from The Estate of Christian B. Peper, and The Distinguished Private Collection which included Gainsborough’s Portrait of Charlotte, 4th Duchess of Marlborough. She is a graduate of Durham University and Christie’s Education and an active member of The Turner Society Committee.
