Pre-Columbian Art

Christie's offers Pre-Columbian art as part of the biannual sales of African and Oceanic art in Paris. Paris has long been a major marketplace for ancient and ethnographic art.

The term “Pre-Columbian art” refers to the art as well as ceremonial and utilitarian artifacts of the native peoples of Central and South America and the Caribbean from ca. 3000 B.C.  Up to the time period marked by the arrival of Christopher Columbus in the Americas. These feature a wide array of ceramics, stone, gold, silver and copper items and textiles.
