Explosive innovations ignited from a single spark

Asian 20th Century and Contemporary Art highlights from the Hong Kong Autumn 2016 sales include works by renowned Chinese, Korean and Japanese artists showcased alongside those by emerging talents

The courage to blaze new trails has always been the most powerful aspect of contemporary art. In addition to creativity and imagination, the most extraordinary works of art spring from inspiration that is found by chance rather than being sought out — and each spark is precious.

Asian Contemporary artists draw upon their own personal cultural contexts and unconventional and original visual languages, forming a unique creative force. This year, Christie’s Asian Contemporary Art Autumn auctions bring together works that seek out these sparks which fired artists’ inspiration.

Works by renowned Chinese, Korean and Japanese artists such as Nara Yoshitomo, Zeng Fanzhi and Yayoi Kusama will be showcased alongside those by emerging talents including Huang Yuxing, Yuan Yuan, Jin Meyerson and Wang Guangle.
